The course reviews different entry and exit procedures, boat protocols, as well as basic seamanship and nautical terminology. A great option for divers who are accustomed to shore diving and also for kids! Course consists of two dives over the course of one morning.

Always wanted to know more about the coral reef ecosystem and ecology? This course is a great introduction to the wonders of the coral reefs, covering basic coral reef ecology and addressing the question of why they are important to the overall health of the oceans, as well as what is being done to try to save them worldwide. This course is a wonderful course for snorkelers, divers, and anyone else who wants to learn more about coral reef conservation! Course consists of a two-hour presentation and discussion in the classroom, before heading out for a guided snorkel tour of the reef.

Go deep or go home! Deep diving is a passion for many divers - there is just something fascinating about what lurks down below! This course teaches you about the special techniques and safety procedures associated with deep diving. Learn about nitrogen narcosis and decompression illness, as well as the safety measures that can minimize a diver’s risk. The course consists of four dives over two mornings of diving. An absolute must for divers wishing to do wall diving and other advanced wreck dives.

Drift diving is a favorite among many divers—just floating along with the current and getting a free ride back to the boat (hopefully)! However, as with any dive in current, things can get tricky, and there are a number of special techniques and pieces of equipment that you should be familiar with to do this safely. The Drift Diving specialty is designed to familiarize divers with these procedures and equipment, including: diving with a float, surface communication with the boat, entry and exit procedures, navigational concerns, and proper selection of a dive site. Course consists of two dives over the course of a single morning of diving.

Always wanted to know more about your dive equipment and how it works? Got a new BCD and regulator that you are not familiar with? An Equipment Specialist certification is a great option for learning about different types of gear and their basic maintenance and gear. Taught by our resident repair technician, the course covers common problems with equipment, standard maintenance and care. This course can be tailored to a broad overview of standard gear, or to the specific set up that you prefer to dive with. Class consists of a four-hour classroom session with an instructor, followed by a two-tank dive.

Night diving is a perennial favorite among divers due to the intense colors of the coral and all the activity around the reef when the sun goes down. This course is designed to review the procedures and techniques associated with diving when the lights go out (literally and figuratively). The course consists of three one-tank night dives and reviews night diving equipment, communicating underwater at night, and disorientation and emergency procedures. Come find out why things always get more exciting after dark!

Whether you have been certified for ten days or ten years, a Peak Performance Buoyancy is a great option for divers of all levels looking to hone their skills. The course focuses on proper weighting, buoyancy techniques, proper equipment alignment and movement through the water. We guarantee that by the end of the course you can float in ANY position known to man underwater! A great way to reduce the amount of weight you need and reduce your air consumption. Please note that this course is strongly recommended by staff for anyone interested in pursuing deep diving, wreck diving or underwater photography.

Always wanted to find that dive knife you lost? Learn how to find and recover objects underwater with a Search and Recovery Specialty! This course teaches divers how to execute select the proper search pattern for the prevalent conditions, how to use lines and reels, and how to lift submerged objects to the surface using a lift bag. A great course for divers who like to do more underwater than just touring the reef! This course consists of four dives over two mornings of diving and is skill intensive.

Always wondered what “that” was or what type of fish just swam by you? Learn with an Underwater Naturalist Course! Although the course offers a basic review of marine biology, the emphasis is placed on the reefs of the Virgin Islands and on animals and fish that the divers encounter during their dives. Learn basic principles of identification, behavior patterns and how to interact safely, for them and for you, with the reef’s inhabitants. An excellent course for the whole family—both kids and adults! It is recommended, but not required, that students purchase Paul Humann’s Guides to the Caribbean (Coral, Fish Identification, Fish Behavior and Reef Creature) to aid in identification at home. All books are available for sale at Low Key Watersports.

Always getting lost? Learn how to effectively navigate underwater with and without the benefit of a compass. This course focuses on properly using a compass, the basic principles of natural navigation, how to measure distance underwater, and how to plan your dive effectively, so that you do not have to surface until you are back to boat! It is a great option for both beginner and more experienced divers alike, as well as for kids. It is recommended, but not required that clients purchase a compass, which are available for sale at Low Key Watersports.

Want to become an underwater shutterbug? Learn how with an Underwater Photography specialty course! Low Key Watersports offers both Film and Digital Underwater Photography Specialty courses depending on your preference and equipment. These courses focus on the basic principles of shooting underwater including composition, flash/available light photography, how to handle equipment, film types, underwater shooting techniques, and how to solve common problems. Clients must provide their own underwater camera. Course consists of one morning of diving, followed by a classroom session and photo review.

Get Wrecked! The Wreck Diver Specialty is among our most popular courses. Wrecks are natural harbors for fish and other marine wildlife, making them a favorite amongst divers—learn about the special techniques and equipment needed to safely navigate a wreck! Students will learn how to orient around and map a wreck, special equipment and procedures for completing a wreck dive, and how to safely penetrate a wreck. Course consists of two special trips, both of which are condition dependent, so advanced scheduling is mandatory.
